John Waldron

John’s career as an architect has primarily been devoted to housing and education projects, with work in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Spain. As a director of a larger architectural practice, his experience also covers a wider variety of building types. John has been a member of the Bristol Urban Design Forum since its inception, including five years as a co-chair of the design panel, becoming increasingly involved with wider urban design and landscape issues.

Emily is a Transport Planner at Gloucestershire County Council where she works at all scales from the development of policy and strategy through to supporting the design of transport infrastructure and streets to enhance places. Before joining Gloucestershire, she worked in both the private sector and local government as an Engineer, Transport Planner and Urban Designer working at local and regional scales on transport strategy development, master-planning, transport capital programme development and delivery. Emily is passionate about the positive role well designed transport infrastructure and streets can play in shaping liveable economically successful places. She applies a ‘place’ and ‘people’ led approach to transport planning and design; frequently working collaboratively with stakeholders and local communities to do this. She has extensive experience of design review and support including as a Panel Chair.

Andy is an architect, urban designer and town planner with over 30 years of experience working in both public and private sectors. From designing and implementing major city mixed use regeneration projects, creating visions for towns, strategies for urban extensions, garden villages and detailed housing layouts in sensitive locations, Andy believes in a collaborative process working closely with the wider community, the right professionals and builders to deliver high quality places fit for our future.

David is a Chartered Engineer and an Associate Director at Arup where he leads the west transport planning business. Chair of the CIHT in the south-west, David has 19 years‘ experience across a breadth of transport planning disciplines including active travel, street design, parking, business case and development of new public transport services and interchange facilities. He enjoys working with public and private sector clients to integrate sustainable transport into projects to make it the mode of choice.

Mike is a Chartered Landscape Architect, inclusive designer, university teacher and researcher, with 35 years’ career experience. His expertise covers wellbeing & green infrastructure, inclusive public realm, healing/ learning environments and participatory design. He has worked across the UK, Europe, Australia and USA. Previous appointments include Principal at a Groundwork Trust, and Programme Manager at Sensory Trust (Eden Project).
Rhiona Williams

Rhiona is a Regeneration Project Manager at Bristol City Council. She has worked at RCKa in London for the last 7 years and has expertise spanning across private and public sectors, in master planning, placemaking and policy projects, specialist residential, community assets and engagement initiatives. Rhiona spearheaded the public engagement for the award winning Nourish Hub, Hammersmith and Fulham. She champions high-quality that enhances lives and places. Rhiona's portfolio includes community land trust projects, mixed-use developments and strategic planning projects, producing Design Codes and SPD’s for Lewisham, Isle of Wight, and Brent council.

Neil is a landscape architect and urban designer with more than 35 years’ experience. He is a Design Council Expert (Associate), a past President of the Landscape Institute and serves on a number of design review panels including that of the Design Commission for Wales. He has helped develop and promote design policy at local and national level and collaborated with Rob Cowan on Design and Access Statements Explained published in 2008.

Daniel is an experienced architect and teacher. Trained in Australia, he has practised across continents: Sydney/ Darwin/ London/ Bath. His interests are broad-based, having completed works in housing, libraries and museums, schools, community/ civic architecture, commercial development, urban design and the public realm. His work is pre-occupied with people and the ecology of place. His involvement in architectural education, between 2006 and 2023 at the University of Bath, focussed on design integration, with ambitious and humane outcomes.

Professor Alex Wright is Head of Architecture at the University of Bath. He is a graduate of the University of Bath, Cambridge University, and Harvard University, where he studied as a Harkness Fellow. He worked in private practice for 15 years before accepting a full-time academic position in 2005. Alex is an expert adviser to the Ministerial Advisory Group for the Department for Communities (Northern Ireland) and is Chair of the Swindon Design Review Panel for Creating Excellence.
