Alan Ringe

After studying construction technology at South Devon College, Alan studied Architecture at Plymouth and has practiced at director level for over 30 years. He has worked on projects in Retail, Commercial, Leisure, Hospitality and Housing. He has experience in master planning and urban design, and worked extensively on projects within conservation areas. Alan has successfully worked on numerous listed buildings throughout the Southwest. Alan has extensive experience working with multiple disciplines in construction projects both private and public. Alan is also a fine furniture maker, having studied at Bridgwater and studied Art History with the Open University. Alan has sat on and presented to review panels for a number of years.

Richard is a co-founder of Design Engine Architects and enjoys working in all sectors and at all scales: from masterplanning to interior design, with architecture at the centre. Before the creation of Design Engine in 2000, Richard was a director of Architecture PLB, senior architect with Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, and an associate of ORMS. He has been the recipient of numerous national and international design awards during 25 years of practice, and also received the Stephen Lawrence Prize for his own house in Winchester. Richard has a particular passion for teaching and has been a regular visiting critic or external examiner at the Bath, OBU, Brighton, UCL Bartlett, Portsmouth and Plymouth Schools. Previously a member of CABE, Richard has been involved with several Design Review Panels across the South of England and now focuses solely on Design West.

Dominic has extensive experience in the Planning and Development industry originally as a Local Government Arboricultural Officer, based in planning and urban design teams. He founded Aspect Tree Consultancy in 2008, working as an independent consultant and works for a wide range of clients from national housebuilders, planning consultants and architects from land allocation to detailed layout design stages. He also teaches Arboriculture as well as being an instructor for professional tree Inspectors.

Joy Stone

Joy is an Architect and Associate Director at Alec French Architects. Throughout her Architectural career she has led many Residential/mixed-use projects covering all design stages from inception through to completion. Joy has extensive experience working with a diverse range of Clients on challenging sites with placemaking as the key focus. In recent years Joy’s experience has involved appraising numerous sites for development opportunities alongside reviewing schemes from a commercial and buildability standpoint. Joy is also an Associate lecturer at University West of England tutoring third year students, is a Mental Health First Aider and has provided mentoring to students and construction industry professionals.

Tom is an experienced and passionate architect, and a co-founder of Extended Studio, architects for communities. His work is about making great design accessible to everyone - from co-design and community engagement, to the development of places where people thrive together. Alongside his architectural background, Tom has also worked in public sector leadership positions as a client, giving him a valuable and unusual perspective on architecture, urban design and community projects.

Dan is a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in the field of Neighbourly Matters, which includes Rights to Light, Daylight & Sunlight Amenity, Party Walls and Access Arrangements. Dan is behind multiple developments on our local and national skyline. He founded 'Light Knights' a group raising standards in the Rights to Light & Daylight & Sunlight industry. He is the secretary of the Severnside P&T Society for Party Wall practitioners. He has published numerous articles, and regularly gives seminars on the subject of Neighbourly Matters.
Amanda Taylor

Amanda has over thirty years’ experience in planning, design and the built environment. Amanda’s areas of expertise include mixed-use masterplanning for LPA and private clients, extending existing communities and creating new neighbourhoods; through strategic allocation, outline and reserve matters stages, producing design codes. Amanda is a qualified Building with Nature assessor which she imparts into her approach to placemaking and urban design. Previous projects have won Housing Design and RTPI Awards. Amanda has also managed estate regeneration project for Council and RSL clients, and resident and stakeholder engagement projects, including strategies for failing highstreets.
